Oak Alley is a plantation home on the River Road between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The alley refers to a walkway from the Mississippi River levee to the front of the house. It was the main way from the river to the house. It goes between a double row of 28 live oak trees that are 300 years old.
My dad and I took a trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas and stayed at a place called Alpine Inn. It was run by a delightful Scottish couple who did everything they could to make our visit pleasant. The extra was the inn’s cat called Al. Friendly, if you liked cats, kept his distance if you didn’t. (Cats know these things), he added just an little bit of extra flavor and friendliness to the place.
